Atlanta International School Opens Applications for Sandy Springs Campus, Introduces New Boarding Option
Atlanta International School (AIS) is now accepting applications for its new Sandy Springs Upper School campus, which will welcome high school students in grades 9-12 for the 2025-26 academic year, beginning in August 2025.
The expansion, which extends the AIS program to the new 25-acre Sandy Springs campus in addition to the school’s 17-acre Buckhead campus, also introduces a boarding option for students.
AIS Sandy Springs will offer the same International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum as its Buckhead counterpart, including the Middle Years Program for grades 9-10 and the Diploma Program and Career-related Program for grades 11-12.
The new location is a response to growing demand for AIS’s renowned IB curriculum and provides students with further opportunities to engage in rigorous academic coursework that prepares them for top-tier colleges and universities worldwide, says AIS Head of School Kevin Glass.
“We’re thrilled to be able to expand our IB offer to more students, especially those whose families live in areas like Sandy Springs, Dunwoody and Johns Creek. The new AIS Sandy Springs Upper School opens up an exciting new option for globally minded high school students who are looking to be a part of something special,” Mr. Glass remarks.
Introducing AIS Boarding
With the Sandy Springs campus, AIS will be able to offer both day school and boarding options. The boarding program will give 70 students to option live at the Sandy Springs campus for five or seven days per week.
AIS acquired the new campus in November 2023 and has since made significant renovations to existing facilities. Situated along the Chattahoochee River, the Sandy Springs campus boasts dormitories, on-site residential staff, laboratories and athletic facilities, including the first Mouratoglou Tennis Academy in Georgia.
AIS Head of Innovation, Research and Technology Marsha Maxwell described in a recent interview with Global Atlanta the advantages of the new boarding option, which also offers AISx, a flexible curriculum for students participating in extracurricular activities like sports or the arts that require bespoke learning schedules.
“There’s no real typical day or typical student, and I think that’s what makes the program so powerful and so interesting,” Dr. Maxwell says. “No matter where you’re coming from around the world, you’re going to have people who are sharing this joy of learning in different ways.”
In addition to new IB courses like Sports, Exercise and Health Science and Global Politics, boarding students will have access to various campus amenities and evening activities designed to build leadership skills and promote intercultural exchange.
The new campus in Sandy Springs builds on AIS’s 40-year history of providing students with a global perspective; more than 90 nationalities and 60 languages are represented, Dr. Maxwell notes. Students also study Chinese, French, German and Spanish and participate in activities that promote responsible global citizenship.
