The Defense Attaché Office of the Embassy of Egypt in Seoul hosted the 51st anniversary reception of Egyptian Armed Forces Day on Tuesday, commemorating the Egyptian Army’s achievements and promising to continue its efforts to protect and preserve national assets domestically and overseas.
The event held at the Ambassador Seoul Pullman Hotel in Jung District, central Seoul, was attended by some 200 people, including defense attachés from 26 countries such as the United States, Japan, China, Russia and Chile, and ambassadors from various Arab and African countries.
Sung Il, deputy minister of the Office of Military Resources Management at Korea’s Defense Ministry, Lim Ki-hoon, president of the Korea National Defense University and Kim Jung-il, the commandant of the Naval College of Korea, were among the distinguished guests at the event.
Egypt celebrates Oct. 6 as Armed Forced Day, commemorating the start of the Fourth Arab-Israeli War in 1973, which began auspiciously for the Egyptians when they broke through Israeli lines. Commodore Khaled Elnassan, the Egyptian defense attaché to Korea, presented plaques of appreciation to the Korea National Defense University and the Naval College as a gesture of appreciation for the defense education exchange between Korea and Egypt.
“Today we celebrate together the 51st anniversary of the glorious October victory, where the men of the Egyptian Armed Forces wrote an epic of heroism and redemption,” said Elnassan during his speech. “That is a tale that has been, and will remain, an eternal memory in the history of our nation, and a source of pride for all Egyptians and Arabs, as the world stood in witness of the Egyptians sacrificing their blood to uphold righteousness and redeem their land.
“Egypt has provided our personnel with weapons, equipment, and training, enabling them to confront potential challenges and hostilities arising from regional dynamics, while also fulfilling the aspirations of Egyptians to protect their capabilities, interest, and sovereignty of their national territory,” continued Elnassan. “Speaking of the value of victory, we shall not forget the sacrifices made by Egyptians in their fight against terrorism on behalf of humanity.”
