In a continuing effort to ensure compliance with affiliation norms, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted surprise inspections across India. On Thursday, CBSE teams visited two schools in Ahmedabad — Nirman High School in Vastrapur and the New Tulip International School in Bopal. Both institutions have been listed among the ‘majority’ of inspected schools found violating the board’s affiliation by-laws. Total 29 schools have been identified across India.

CBSE officials revealed that the violations included enrolling students beyond their actual attendance records, effectively creating “non-attending” enrolments, and failing to adhere to the board’s infrastructural norms.

The CBSE is in the process of issuing show-cause notices to these two city schools, along with others identified during the inspections. Legal action is also likely, if need be, after the replies are filed by the schools. While the official communication avoided using the term “dummy school,” sources familiar with the developments alleged that these institutions were engaging in such practices.

Efforts by Mirror to reach the trustees, Ashish Desai of Nirman High School and Tejas Sridhar of The New Tulip International School, went unanswered. Phone calls and text messages to the schools’ principals also received no response.

The inspections were carried out on December 18 in Delhi and on December 19 in Bengaluru (Karnataka), Patna (Bihar), Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh), Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) and Ahmedabad (Gujarat). A total of 29 teams, each comprising a CBSE officer and a principal from an affiliated school, conducted the checks in a synchronised manner to maintain the element of surprise and ensure accurate findings.
